Mother. Wife. Humanist. Feminist. Friend. Writer.
Born in Rwanda, Africa, to a Yugoslav father and a Dutch mother, Myriana Merkovic had the privilege of being raised in Casablanca, Morocco, and educated in Brussels, Belgium. She later emigrated to America, the land she fell in love with when she was ten and where she enjoyed a long and fulfilling career working in hospitals and nursing homes as a Physical Therapist. Her journey in the medical field and across continents gave her an appreciation of life’s frailties, nature’s ingenuity, and the richness of diversities.
Books were her first love, storytelling her second. As a child, she entertained her three siblings with outlandish nightly medleys of Walt Disney’s Fables & Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, and French-lit classics. The love bug stuck throughout her life, so naturally, after raising her family and retiring her scrubs, she started writing novels and vows to keep at it as long as her fingers remember how to use a keyboard.
Her stories are about the power of sisterhood, imperfect family dynamics, the secrets we keep, the sacrifices we make, and what truly makes the fabric of our lives.
She believes that when we open our minds and hearts, we find greatness and closeness with all.
She believes that it is amidst the storms of life that we grow within ourselves and find our own identity.
She believes in miracles, fairies, the blessed unexpected, and above all, in the resilience of the human spirit.
She lives in Florida with her husband, her rambunctious yellow Labrador Sam, and her sassy cat Sally-in-the-alley, whom she loves beyond any reasonable measure.

“Wow. Just wow. ‘Hearts We Leave Behind’ is a true gem. The depth of emotion in this novel is astounding. The characters are so beautifully flawed, and their journey towards forgiveness and redemption is both moving and inspiring. The writing is exquisite, and the setting descriptions transported me to the heart of Appalachia. This is a story that will resonate with readers long after they turn the last page. A true masterpiece.”
